Our Story

and why we do this

Our Mission

Our mission is to transform everyday materials into extraordinary experiences. We specialize in re- and upcycling, creating our exhibits from discarded and unwanted items.

We're challenging the stereotype that museums are boring, especially for younger audiences. Our goal is to make art and science compelling and interactive. We believe that by creating engaging, hands-on experiences, we can help people, especially the younger generation, disconnect from their screens and reconnect with the world around them. The enthusiastic feedback we've received proves that our approach is effective.

What Drives Us

Our team of 15 to 20 passionate guides and artists is dedicated to offering a unique experience to every visitor. While our tours follow a general structure, each one is personally tailored to the interests of the people we're guiding, making every visit truly unique and personal.

We believe in the importance of genuine human connection. That's why we deliberately avoid the use of audio guides and limit information panels. Our focus is on meaningful interaction and authentic conversation, which we feel is vital in a world that can often feel disconnected and artificial. We’re not just sharing information; we’re creating a shared, human experience.

Our Impact

It all began in the dynamic heart of Cluj-Napoca, a city known for its youthful energy and vibrant festival scene. Driven by a passion for the fantastical world of steampunk, the founders of Steampunk Transylvania embarked on a mission to create something truly unique.

Their goal was to not only build the first museum of its kind in Europe but to also challenge the idea that museums are boring. They lovingly crafted a weird and wonderful world using intricate clockwork, gears, and antique materials, inviting visitors to step through a curtain and leave the ordinary behind.

The museum officially opened its doors on June 18, 2022, fueled by the vision of inspiring future generations to dream and create. By blending the mystique of Transylvania with the aesthetics of Victorian-era machinery, they built an immersive, interactive experience that transports you to an alternate reality. This isn't just a place to look at objects; it's a living, breathing realm where imagination comes to life, proving that the magic of creation can turn unwanted items into something extraordinary.
